Meeting your new crew on the first day is crucial as it fosters a sense of belonging, teamwork, and collaboration from the outset, laying the foundation for a positive and productive work environment.  Your crew leader will introduce you to those you will be working with regularly. We encourage you to get to know those on your crew and use them as a resource.

Whether you have questions about benefits, need assistance with policies and procedures, or simply want to discuss any concerns you may have, our HR Director, Kimber Powell, is available to help. SAFETY TRAINING:

TRAINING:

Your crew leader and those on your crew will help guide you through your training focusing on the following:

INTRODUCTION TO TOOLS / MATERIALS:

  • Tool familiarization: Learn about basic tools used in metal installation.

  • Material overview: Understand different types of construction metals and their applications on your first job and those following.

  • Hands-on practice: Begin basic tasks under supervision to get comfortable with tools and materials.

SHADOWING:

  • Shadow experienced installers/cutters: Observe their work processes and techniques.

  • Ask questions: Take the opportunity to clarify any doubts or seek advice from experienced colleagues.

HANDS-ON TRAINING AND SKILL DEVELOPMENT

Basic Installation Techniques

  • Hands-on training: Practice basic installation techniques under supervision.

  • Measure and cut: Learn how to measure and cut metal materials accurately.

  • Installation procedures: Understand step-by-step procedures for installing metal components.

Intermediate Skills Development

  • Advanced tool training: Gain proficiency in using more complex tools and equipment.

  • Fine-tune techniques: Refine skills in precise measurement, cutting, and installation.

  • Troubleshooting: Learn to identify common issues and how to address them effectively.

Specialized Training

  • Focus on specific tasks: Receive specialized training in areas such as bending, welding, or finishing.

  • Practical exercises: Apply learned techniques in practical exercises to reinforce understanding.

  • Quality control: Understand the importance of quality in construction metal installation.

Team Collaboration

  • Collaborative projects: Work on projects alongside team members to foster teamwork and communication.

  • Problem-solving scenarios: Participate in group discussions to brainstorm solutions to construction challenges.

  • Peer feedback: Receive constructive feedback from colleagues to aid in skill improvement.

Review and Assessment

  • Review of learning: Reflect on the skills and knowledge acquired during the onboarding period.

  • Assessment: Participate in a skills assessment from HR to gauge proficiency and identify areas for further development.

  • Goal setting: Set personal goals for ongoing skill enhancement and career growth in construction metal installation with your crew leader.

Throughout the onboarding process, experienced mentors and supervisors will provide ongoing support and guidance to ensure a smooth transition into the role of a construction metal installer.
